During his journey, Alexis drew on extensive interviews from leading scholars involved in the study of Haiti, as well as his personal, vast research on the Haitian Revolution era. “Liberty in a Soup” delves into the complex challenges that characterized the Haitian Revolution which was led by Toussaint L’Ouverture and the multi-layered soup recipe enjoyed by Haitians on January First in celebration of the country’s independence, while at the same time, underscoring the Revolution’s role in the development of modern humanity.
